Was your job spec written for a job that no longer exists?
Was your job spec written for a job that no longer exists?
Our 2025 Salary Survey recorded 283 different job titles among 1,422 bid professionals. The terminology was already confusing. Now AI has changed what the roles actually do — and most job descriptions haven’t caught up.
Here’s the problem with an outdated spec:
It’s misleading. If your Bid Writer JD describes a role that drafts everything from scratch, but the reality is editing, verifying and elevating AI-assisted content, you’re hiring for the wrong skills — and the person you hire will discover a different job on day one.
It’s costing you the best people. Top bid professionals are already working with AI daily. When they read a spec with no mention of it, they draw a conclusion: this company is behind. The strongest candidates aren’t just reading your JD to see if they qualify — they’re reading it to qualify you.
It benchmarks the wrong things. Prompt fluency, content curation for AI, output verification, governance — these are now core competencies, not nice-to-haves. If they’re not in the spec, they’re not in your interviews, your scoring or your salary banding.
We’ve just rewritten the six core bid job descriptions for the age of AI — Bid Manager, Proposal Manager, Bid Writer, Bid Co-ordinator, Graphic Designer and Knowledge Base Manager. Roles, responsibilities and core focus, updated for how winning teams actually work now.
